Welcome to Hamilton Elementary School!
My name is R. Todd Kilmer, and I am the principal at HES. This is my 13th year in education. I have spent my entire career in Title 1 schools. I taught 1st grade for five years in Alexandria, VA, before teaching 2nd grade for two years at Hamilton. I then served as the literacy coach at Hamilton for three years before transitioning to the role of principal in 2022. I am also a graduate of CASD. My family moved to Carlisle because my father taught at the Army War College. I then attended Bellaire Elementary School, Wilson Middle School, and Carlisle High School. My wife and I have four kids, Benny (2nd grade), Robby (1st grade), Thea (Pre-K), and Tommy (the baby).
At Hamilton we have a vision statement: Today is your day to work hard and be kind. That mantra focuses everything we do at Hamilton. The staff and students work hard every day at rigorous levels to learn all of the Pennsylvania State Core Standards in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and specials classes. We offer tiered academic supports driven by benchmark assessments and data analysis throughout the year. Students also learn the importance of being kind to others by building positive relationships, respecting others’ differences, and through collaborative learning experiences. We also ensure that learning is fun, engaging, and memorable.
Hamilton is a Title 1 school, which means we receive funding from the federal government for additional resources, staff, and educational opportunities. We offer a variety of family-based learning opportunities throughout the school year through our Family Title 1 events. At HES we celebrate our student population’s diversity; we are the most diverse elementary school in Cumberland County. Hamilton has an amazingly dedicated and caring staff focused on meeting the needs of all of our students.
Through visibility, engagement, and communication, I plan to partner with all Hamilton families to ensure every student has the ability to learn and grow, while having fun along the way. I am looking forward to working with every one of you to help make this your child’s best year of school yet!
